Rotary Club Of Jinja
Dear friends, welcome to the new Rotary Year 2023/2024, as we create hope in the world. Our club is the third oldest Club in Uganda and for the last 59 years we are actively serving and reaching out to communities in Uganda. Thank you members for keeping this club vibrant, without you there would be no club. In a special way, I would like to appreciate our Past Presidents’ Council for keeping the club that high.
- The fifth goal of Rotaractors is to motivate young people for eventual membership into Rotary. I am happy to share that Rotary club of Jinja has invited former Rotaractors to join and participate in club activities. This has enabled them to grow their profession and leadership skills.
- Family Chair is keeping Members active by recognizing members’ marriage anniversaries and weddings, our children’s weddings, supporting members and immediate family in times of sorrows, and celebrating all members’ birthdays and singing, which has kept us all very active.
- We are very active on social media like WhatsApp, for both our club and Eastern Area 1 groups where members are continuously communicated to and get informed. Membership Chair created a platform for guests where they all get information and mentorship.
- Our Club weekly meetings are interesting, timely and inclusive, this is evidenced by the high turn up every Wednesday, at board meetings, during projects, and at home hospitalities and after-fellowships (Kimeza).
- Rotary Club of Jinja has so far sponsored the following clubs in Uganda:
- Soroti Central
- Jinja City
- Bugiri
- Source of the Nile
- Iganga
- Njeru
- Busia
Rotaract Clubs
- Rotaract Club of Jinja
- Jinja Vocational Training Institute
PROSPECTIVE CLUBS
- Rotary Club of Namutumba
- Rotaract Club Of Buwenge
There is a need to have corporate membership since our club has lived for some time. The following tips can be put to use for membership retention.
- Let us keep learning every day since knowledge gives power.
- Mentorship (Training)
- Membership experience (Fun, smiling fellowships, Participatory)
- Recognitions and appreciation of members.
- Innovation fellowships e.g. Camping, Bikers, Golfers, Wine takers, etc
- Memberships Participation. E.g. Buddy groups give healthy competition in different club engagements.
- Encourage Members to join at least one or two Rotary fellowships and Action Groups.
- Let us give more time to our young people, Rotaract and Interact Clubs, the future of Rotary lies there.
- Encouraging members to start investment clubs to support them financially.
- To be inclusive, look around for all sections of people, the Indian Community, Pakistani, South Sudanese, and Arabians.
Let us be more vigilant and look for corporate members. These can be recruited from our vicinity in and around Jinja City like Law Firms, Factories, Schools, Engineers, Hospitals, Indian Associations of Uganda, and Supermarkets among others. Let us try it this year.
Membership Trends
As your current Membership Chair 2023-24, having looked at our membership graph over time, I would encourage members to each invite one individual and only 5 corporate members to our 3rd oldest Rotary Club in Uganda. In a special way, I would like to thank my predecessor Rtn Edgar Ronald Rujumba for a job well done, you brought in active and serous members to the club. Thank you very much for entrusting me as the Vice President and Membership Chair.
Rtn. Micheal Tomson Ofwono (PHF)
Membership Chair 2023-24
