The Cancer Run, an annual event dedicated to combating cancer in Uganda, is gearing up for another impactful year. Established in 2011 by the Uganda Cancer Run Program, this event has evolved into a cornerstone of cancer awareness and support in the country. As a registered non-profit organization governed by a board of trustees and a management team, the Uganda Cancer Run Program is committed to its vision of a cancer-free Uganda and its mission of providing comprehensive, sustainable, and affordable solutions for cancer care.
The Vision and Mission
The Uganda Cancer Run Program envisions a country free from the burden of cancer. To achieve this, their mission focuses on creating a comprehensive, sustainable, and affordable cancer care system. The organization’s core values—Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Innovation, Collaboration, and Equity—guide their strategic priorities and daily operations.
Their strategic priorities include:

Scope of Operation
The Uganda Cancer Run Program is dedicated to several key areas:
- Promoting Cancer Awareness: Educating the public about cancer prevention and early detection.
- Offering Cancer Screening and Treatment Services: Providing access to critical cancer care services.
- Developing Infrastructure: Building and improving facilities for cancer treatment.
- Building Human Resource Capacity: Training and supporting healthcare professionals in cancer care.
Major Achievements
Over the past 13 years, the Cancer Run has made significant strides in improving cancer care in Uganda:
- Nsambya Hospital Treatment Centre: Construction of a 36-bed treatment center at Nsambya Hospital, costing 1.4 billion UGX.
- Rotary Blood Bank Contribution: Donation of 200 million UGX towards the establishment of a blood bank at Mengo Hospital.
- LINAC Bunkers: Commenced construction of two bunkers for LINAC cancer treatment, with Phase 1 already completed.
- Global Grant Support: Secured over $150,000 in global grants for the cancer center, including staff training.
To date, the Cancer Run Program has achieved a total of 5.4 billion UGX in contributions. This year, they are targeting an additional 4 billion UGX, with approximately $13 million earmarked for the construction of a bunker at Nsambya Hospital.
Event Participation and Goals
This year’s Cancer Run is set to take place on August 25th, with a target of 60,000 runners, each contributing 30,000 UGX. This ambitious goal aims to raise over 1.8 billion UGX, supplemented by additional donations, corporate partnerships, and sales of Cancer Run kits.

The Cancer Run offers several sponsorship packages to support the event and its initiatives:
- Platinum: Over 300 million UGX. Includes branding placement at the event venue and routes.
- Diamond: Over 150 million UGX. Covers a 100-seater tent, tables, and chairs.
- Silver: 25 million UGX. Includes a 50-seater tent, tables, and chairs.
- Bronze: 10 million UGX. Provides a 50-seater tent space.
- Ruby: 5 million UGX. Includes recognition and special mentions.
- Corporate Breakfast: 2.5 million UGX. Offers recognition and breakfast options.
All sponsorship packages include recognition by the MC during the event and media appearances during key activation events.
